Spice & Ice Restaurant and Lounge

The lounge is owned by Anand Radia, who has successfully launched PizzaExpress and Jazz@PizzaExpress in the UAE. 

​Spice & Ice takes culinary cues from the East as well, specialising in wider Pan-Asian cuisine, including innovative creations such as chicken served on a mango carpaccio and asparagus korma infused with miso paste and white wine.


S&I really took us by surprise, because we live in JLT, and tend to take most of the "happening" places here for granted! But, this one is anything but basic... They are relatively new  so they have a ton of  pocket-friendly offers which is a major crowd puller! 
So, whats so special about S&I?

Giving into the molecular gastronomy trend that is at its peak for some reason- (Bless Heston!), we've all been kind of used to the idea of being entertained whilst eating! And, since everyone has already basked in the glory of Tresind and Farzi Cafe, this can definitely be a welcome change.


Located on the basement level of cluster A, the exterior can be a bit of a put off because it just doesn't live up to the experience awaiting inside, so hang tight! Once inside you'll be greeted by the most pleasant and happy staff who will escort you to your table! If you see a commotion at one corner- thats probable the very talented chefs doing all of their "magic" gastronomy and entertaining the guests! The restaurant is bright with funky lights and almost gave us a club feel with its charts-topping music and the vibe. 


They have a cool looking bar space, where they offer a huge variety of libations! Additionally, on every Tuesday its Ladies night- so there is free flowing white and red wine as well as prosecco and soft drinks on the house! Not a bad deal at all.. AND some bar food! 


We had the entertainer vouchers so we decided to dive straight into the mains! Surprisingly they had a huge variety of vegetarian as well as non-veggie dishes. The chef was kind enough tot even custom make one family favourite cottage cheese dish for us!

One thing about the food you should know is that the portions may or may not suffice 2 people! They are kind of tiny, but packed with flavour!
Butter Chicken:
Chicken cooked in a rich aromatic tomato gravy. Its been around since donkey years and honestly no Indian meal is complete without it! A classic dish, it is slightly on the sweeter side generally but this version wasn't, except this version was full of masala and had a good kick to it! Loved it! 
Crispy Vegetable Envelope:
Pickled vegetables wrapped in a filo pastry, served with cous cous and a mango moilee. This was a super interesting eat, because our parents had no idea what was going on in the dish initially, but then when they tried it, it instantly became their favourite! The cous cous tasted like some spiced pulao drenched in a very rich creamy gravy which honestly had no mango taste or feel honestly; along with the crunchiness of the veggie envelope which was actually filled wth mixed veg! It was a celebration for the palette with so many flavours and textures coming through! A must try..
Paneer Makhani:
Surprisingly not to be found on the menu, but the chef made it specially for us. The cottage cheese was extra soft and almost melted in your mouth with the gravy being smooth as butter. Another classic well done!
Wild Mushroom Chicken:
Chicken marinated with wild mushrooms cooked in a tandoor and served with a spiced mushroom risotto. This was a slightly underwhelming in the non veggie dishes for me.. The risotto was giant mush but it was tasty, and as good as the presentation looked, the portion size was super disappointing. 
Chicken Tikka Masala:
Chicken Tikka tossed in a tangy tomato and onion gravy, and when i say tangy i mean it-will-make-you-cringe--tangy. Though when you eat it with a roti its balanced and tastes pretty decent! Though did i mention- tiny portions!

It is a really interesting concept, and being here is definitely an experience. The alcohol is affordable and the food is fancy! If the portions and the price is a concern, on Wednesdays thy have a 50% off on selected food and beverages which actually includes most if the items on the main menu! Try it, you wont be disappointed!
