Thai Wok

by Jannat & Pawan Manghnani on August 4th, 2016

Thai Wok, an oriental gem in the heart of Dubai creates intense flavors using only the freshest ingredients. Chefs' (Saing and Krissana, from Four Seasons and Le Meridien Thailand) cooking reflects a rich mix of the traditional dishes of Thailand's various regions whilst blending in a variety of specialties with all the ingredients including the herbs and seasoning flown in directly from Thailand combined with fresh seafood from the coast of Oman.

Thai cuisine is light, fresh and traditionally seasoned with chili peppers and aromatic herbs, a gourmet delight for those who know and love good food. It has a temper. It can be as spicy hot (but not as heavy) as fiery Indian food or as gently flavored as Chinese. The secret to creating versatility in Thai cooking is by delicately balancing between the main ingredients so that one does not overwhelm the other.

There have been ample "new" restaurants in Dubai that have opened and closed over the years, that have promised great interiors, ambiance, new concepts that will change the landscape of the restaurant industry in Dubai. Although, they may be true for most of these things, they may have forgotten the most essential promise, the promise of good food. Sure, thats just one factor that makes a successful restaurant out of many others, but lets face it no one's going to a restaurant that serves bad food regardless of their interiors etc.

The best thing I can say about Thai Wok is that it knows exactly what it is and excels at that. What it is, is a small delivery & catering focused restaurant that delivers when it comes to their Thai food. Everything else is irrelevant, that goes on to show the idea of Thai Wok comes from  passion for the cuisine. It never tries be anything its not, from their simplistic interiors to the menu, its goal is set and at point. Its grown popularity among the Al Barsha residents and neighboring offices, and I don't see why not.

In one word, Non-Existent. You don't really go to Thai Wok to dine in. The concept is purely for takeouts and home delivery. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. The food speaks volumes for itself. They do have some basic seating arrangement, but again, ordering in would be your best option.

The food is authentic Thai, so expect no less something from Thailand.jadsjadsjhads

Vegetable Spring Rolls:
Delicious filling of mixed vegetables in spring roll pastry and fried. 3 pieces served with sweet chili sauce.
Can’t go wrong with spring rolls! Mixed veggie stir fry banging with flavour wrapped and rolled in a thin pastry dough and crisp fried to perfection, it was gone in a few seconds!
Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce:
Lean strips of chicken breast, marinated overnight in authentic Thai herbs and grilled to perfection. 3 pieces served with fresh homemade peanut sauce
Chicken satay is so nostalgic a dish, we’ve been eating it since we were kids and it is surprisingly still as exciting. their version nails the thai flavours in the chicken marinade completely and the peanut sauce is quite the bomb, in terms of taste! Perfect balance of flavours, we found ourselves eating the dip just by itself. We would totally go back just for this dish!
Chicken Lollipops:
Marinated, battered and fried crispy chicken wings. 4 pieces served with sweet chili sauce.
Chicken lollipops were a wee bit oily but super tasty nonetheless. We were told they don’t use frozen products so the fact that it was fresh was very appealing. The thai sweet chilli sauce served with it made for the perfect accompaniment.

Coconut Soup with Chicken:
Mild coconut milk base soup with chunks of sliced chicken breast flavoured with Thai herbs.
So soothing and relaxing, this soup felt like a hug in a bowl! The coconut flavour wasn't empowering which we liked, it just had subtle hints and was well rounded in terms of flavour as opposed to being bland! Cracker of a dish!
Tom Yum Soup (Veg):
Spicy and sour clear soup with button mushrooms flavoured with Thai herbs.
So, I must mention, this was specifically altered for a vegetarian version hence without the fish sauce(which is a major component in thai cuisine), it turned out to be a lot clearer than it normally would be! The taste was so perfectly manipulated by enhancing other flavours like lemon and lemongrass to make sure it still is a bowl of heaven!

Mushroom Salad:
Assorted mushroom salad with vegetables and cashew nuts.
I didn't try this because, I was so happy with the coconut soup but my cousin loved it. He is a vegetarian and he knows how jaded flavours can become if not experimented with. He is not a salad person, but he completely devoured it!
Papaya Salad:
Shredded green papaya, long beans and cherry tomatoes tossed in fresh spicy Thai dressing sprinkled with peanuts and dried shrimps.
So, ours was w/o the shrimps because my wife is allergic to shell-fish, so basically it was a veggie salad as well, but SUCH a good one at that! It was so spicy, but the kind of spice that alerts you as opposed to burning your tongue! We couldn't stop eating it!

Thai Green Curry (Veg):
Curry paste made with fresh green chilies and assorted herbs. Sliced chicken breast or beef or whole prawns or tofu with eggplant in the curry.
Ours, was a tofu version and it was the first time I ate a Thai curry with tofu and I must say, nothing beats meat in a broth! The tofu didn't do much for me, but luckily the curry bit itself was so banging with flavour that, i literally left the tofu out and just had that with rice. Actually to be honest, I thought, this curry could give some massive competition to Thiptara.
Steamed Jasmine Rice:
Aromatic Thai Jasmine rice.
Chicken with Cashew Nuts:
Strips of chicken breast, mixed with vegetables, crunchy cashew nuts and dried red chilies, stir fried with Thai herbs and sauces.
Excellent! I love me some good oriental food which isn't doused in oil, and this was exactly that! Well tossed in sauce it was flavourful and a light eat as a meal! Full points..
Steamed Fish in Chili, Garlic and Lime Juice:
Steamed fish in chili, garlic and lime juice.
Surprisingly this actually reminded me of the kind of fish that my mum used to make at home when I was little! The flavours weren't too complicated but you could not let the fork down. I ended up eating this in a matter of seconds. Light and simple! Perfect grab for a healthy meal.
Rice Noodles in Soy Sauce:
Flat rice noodles stir fried in soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, chili and Thai basil.
The noodles were a tad bit too al-dente, for our liking but we still ate it! My wife loves her noodles and dimsum's more than anything in this world, so she wouldn't share but from the one-two bites that I did steal, it had some powerful soy flavours! Seemed like a perfect "netflix and chill" take out!

Mango Sticky Rice:
Famous Thai sticky rice mixed with sweet coconut sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with fresh sweet slices of mango.
