Gourmet 10/10 Culinary Festival, Armani/Deli, Burj Khalifa

Indulge in an authentic deli experience in vibrant Downtown Dubai, where Italian culinary flair and the very best international ingredients come together to create a daily changing menu of classic and contemporary flavours. A gourmands’ paradise, pick up something to go from the fresh food display, relish the simple lunch time delights of a plate of homemade pasta or join friends for our popular Friday brunch. From fresh bread and classic charcuterie to European cheeses and tempting pastries, Armani/Deli is your gourmet market in the heart of the city.


​Concealed within the depths of the grandiose Armani Hotel, wittily located is the Armani/Deli that makes you journey through the lavish halls of the hotel before you reach your destination, all the while thinking how is this restaurant going to match up to the look and feel of the hotel? In this case, I have to disagree with the quote “its about the journey, not the destination” because Armani/Deli manages to capture the aesthetics of its iconic brand and further its image. From the interiors to their authentic Italian menu, its clear this establishment emerges from the roots. The menu heavily favors the seafood loving community but there are aplenty of other variation and vegetarian options. The glorious Dubai Fountain Show, which is the world's tallest fountain, from their outdoors seating area only adds to the grandness of the experience. Impressively at a whopping 275 meters, it is twice the height of the fountains at Bellagio in Las Vegas, USA.


Burrata Cheese With Eggplant Puree and Balsamic:

For the uninitiated buratta cheese is ​a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains "stracciatella" and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is also defined by some sources as an outer shell of mozzarella filled with butter or a mixture of butter and sugar. It is usually served fresh and at room temperature. The word burrata means "buttered" in Italian. 
Now imagine being served this glorious thing with balsamic, that totally cut the "richness" and added some zing to our lump of cheese, while the eggplant puree (even though it sounds strange), added a charm of its own with its subtle flavours to the glistening burrata making it a perfect appetizer!
Fettuccini With Procini Mushroom And Black Truffle:

Our second course was a warm pasta dish, and when we heard about the description we could not wait for it. As anticipated we could smell the truffle flavours as our dishes were arriving to the table. I'm a new fan of truffle ever since my wife initiated it to me and I realised how naturally you wish you could use it on everything(but you cannot). Truffle oil and pasta go very well together and Chef Maurizio took well advantage of that. Our platters came with well twirled pasta drenched in truffle oil and decorated with the porcini. Unquestionably it tasted splendid and I think all of us inhaled this very large portion in a few minutes.
Saffron Risotto With Asparagus / King Prawn:

Risotto is a northern Italian rice dish cooked in a broth to a creamy consistency. The broth can be derived from meat, fish, or vegetables. Many types of risotto contain butter, wine, and onion. It is one of the most common ways of cooking rice in Italy. The common preparation includes the rice ​to be first cooked briefly in a soffritto of onion and butter or olive oil, to coat each grain in a film of fat, white or red wine is added and must be absorbed by the grains. 
​I was being enlightened by my lady while we waited for our last savoury course of the night. I honestly did not know about a lot of that stuff. Anyways, our risotto was not only prepared like that but consisted additional flavours of exotic Saffron to go with it, and while mine was topped with a giant prawn, my wife had buttered asparagus on hers. We dug in and never stopped (like expected).

Risotto is literally a very complicated dish to cook, because the rice needs be al dente almost, so much so that the contestants of Masterchef Australia call it the "death-dish". Not that we had any qualms about our dish, because when we spoke to Chef Murizio we knew exactly that we were in for a posh treat! 
Orange Blossom Cannolino, Citrus Ricotta Mousse:

​Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta. Our Cannolinis were flavoured with delicate flavours of orange, which something out of the ordinary for us. The flavour was enough to be noticed, and filled with a complimenting citrus ricotta cheese filling, placed on top of a smooth sheet of raspberry jelly and decorated with a few sugared raspberries. 

The dessert not only looked gorgeous but tasted amazing! It was especially nice because the complexity and the lightness of all the citrussy flavours really helped us get over the heavy, buttery and utterly yum appetizer and mains that we devoured. 
​Raspbery Sorbet:

​Raspberry Sorbet literally gave me a brain freeze but it did wake me up from the "food coma" i was slipping into. It was so nice to taste a real fruit sorbet as opposed to the synthetic/flavoured sorbets we get in the markets. One of the highlights of the entire meal actually!

​The Armani/Deli is in conformity with their Italian grounds and is a goldmine for seafood lovers. Expecting for inventive and unique finds is ill advised, the menu can be by the numbers and that’s what I hope they implement on in the future. Other than that the Deli has success written all over it, from the brand image to the inspired implementation of the Italian cuisine, not forgetting the epic fountain works during the nocturnal hours. Now in its 2nd successful year, This exotic Gourmet 10/10 Culinary Festival at Armani Restaurants is certainly not to be missed.
