Hengchen opened its doors in Dubai Motor City in 2010, introducing some of its most sought after Dim Sum Chicken, Crispy beef, Sweet and Sour chicken and other Chinese delicacies prepared to order, in vegetable oil, and served in a contemporary environment with friendly and efficient service.

Continuous hard work and conscious efforts towards the principle of Under Promising and Over Delivering, today, after 4 years, Hengchen remains greatly popular Chinese food Restaurant in Dubai, with its locations at Dubai Motor City, Dubai Investment Park (The Market Mall), JLT, Business Bay, Deira and Safeer Mall in Sharjah. Hengchen has modernized and transformed the Chinese food experience with its ever so popular Chicken Wantons, Japanese Nana Wings, Honey Glazed Prawns, Chicken Cashew Nut, Crispy Chicken and Chicken Chowmein.

Needless to mention Hengchen is greatly known for its generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, take aways, and delivery to your door step in minimum possible time.The food at Hengchen is prepared fresh daily and cooked to order. 

Review

We were invited to Hengchen by their very efficient owners and chefs for a tasting specifically because we had a not-so-good experience with their branch in DIP months before. It was very sweet of them to bother and ask us to give them a second chance. Gladly, we made our way to the JLT branch where we were joined by the Owner Numan, casually checking up on us throughout our dinner and the chef in the end who was so open to new ideas and tips that we gave to him! 

Beverages

Summer Passion:

Passion Fruit, Lemon Juice:- Loved it. Was so super refreshing! 
​Cinderella:

Orange juice, pineapple juice, milk cream:- Very tart in the beginning, but the taste is quite addictive once you start having it. 
​Mojito:

Classic. We ordered ours without any sugar and it still very refreshing and tasty! 

Food

T.N.T. Prawns:

TNT prawns are definitely better than TNT chicken and we can vouch for that because we had tried the chicken version earlier. It is unfair to compare it to the ever famous "Dynamite Shrimps" from CPK, to these since these have a character of their own. They were tangy and hot at the same time and tasted pretty decent. 
Japanese Nana Wings:

Chicken wings 2.0. These were SO good, we could not stop eating them. They were fried and coated in something similar to sticky and sweet plum sauce. Just a tad bit oily, but something that deserves a repeat order!  
Sesame Prawns:

Very crunchy and fresh, these prawns were the highlight of our dinner at Hengchen that night. We honestly did not expect it to be as amazing as it was. Must order. 
Steamed Chicken Dim Sums:

These are my wife's favourite as you know, if you have been following us. She said they were a bit too thick on the skin and the filling was nice and spicy. She did wonder why there was so much oil on top of the dim sums? Nevertheless, it was not bad, but not the best.
Vegetable Spring Roll:

Crispy philo pastry with a cabbage-y carroty-y mush that we have all been a fan of since our childhood. Hengchen did a good job with them. We just wished there was a dipping sauce served along with it.
Vegetable Fried Rice:

On to the mains we started off with the plain old fried rice to be eaten with Vegetable Manchurian in gravy. The rice itself was quite yum and nicely flavoured, again just a bit on the oilier side. 
Vegetable Manchurian:

The vegetable manchurian is one of the best we have had in Dubai. We are big fans of Chinese Village but we found this to be better than that. The gravy was so tasty and thick as opposed to a watered down version you get elsewhere. The manchurian balls were sooo good and soft! It was definitely  our favourite main dish of the night.
Chicken in Shezwan Sauce:

Stir fried chicken in Shezwan sauce was ordered because we wanted to have something spicy yet not fried. The chicken sadly was a bit unevenly cooked and was left raw or overcooked in different bits, The sauce however was so spicy and nice, perfect to drench some rice or noodles in. 
Chicken Singapore Noodles:

My wife felt like eating vermicelli noodles and hence we ordered this. It was quite palatable-yes, but the chicken had the same issues- it was left dry or uncooked. That just mellowed our spirits and we moved on to the next dish.
Chicken Curry Sauce With Rice:

We were sooo surprised to see curry being served in Hengchen, but it turned out to be almost similar to Thai curry. The presentation gets a vote from us. The curry itself tasted yum witht rice but the chicken had some recurring issues, so we could not really enjoy the taste that there was. Sad and we hope the chef can make amends and rectify this serious issue. 
Chocolate Fudge:

On a sweeter note, the dessert was a chocolate fudge cake, outsourced but so yum and gooey nonetheless. It was a bit cold for our liking but not like that that stopped us from eating it all in a few seconds.

Verdict

Hengchen for us was about a few hits and a few misses. From what we ate the last time and from what we gauged, their seafood is commendable and so is the vegetarian food, Just the cooking of the chicken needs to be taken care of and they will have themselves an amazing indo-chinese restaurant. The staff was excellent and super helpful so kudos on that..
