​Busaba Eathai is one of the UK’s leading Thai restaurants, founded in 1999 by Alan Yau, creator of Hakkasan and Wagamama, now open at THE BEACH, Dubai. Busaba is known for its exquisite and reasonably priced Thai delicacies, flavorsome selection of freshly prepared salads, stir fries and curries, noodle dishes, grilled meats and fish. Signature dishes include the Massaman Duck Curry, Ginger Beef Stir Fry and Thai Calamari. 


I was so so hesitant to go for this particular tasting, even after having been to like maybe 1000's, only because I'm severely allergic to any kind of seafood and Thai food is literally based on it, and I just feel too much of a brat showering the restaurant owners and chef's with my delightful food restrictions, making their job harder! Also, it was a lunch even so my husband could not make it, and I just knew, everyone would be wanting to meet and greet "The Tasterpreneur" and not his plus 1. After all, he is the brains behind this whole thing. 

So anyways, husband said there is no choice and it is an event I cannot miss, so i buckled up and asked one of my favourite gym bud Aishwarya to join me along and be my +1 for that afternoon, and thankfully she very graciously agreed! Whoop!

Getting There

I will not lie, getting a car to The Beach is bloody pain, must always always always just metro/tram it. Valet or no valet. We obviously got stuck in some stagnant traffic, and then everyone there seemed so clueless that it took us longer than expected to reach our venue! Famished, we made it there and I just kept reminding myself "pictures!" "must take many pictures" (thanks husband). We were greeted by a super sweet lady who was, just so excited to know we came on behalf of The Tasterpreneur! She said, how much his opinion mattered to restaurants and it can nearly make or break their efforts. 

With no pressure at all after hearing that, we were given an option to seat ourselves at this community table setting, where a bunch of people or "zomans" or #bloggers and "influencers" were already comfortable, with their DSLR's flashing brighter than the sun directly pointed at the food, to get that one perfect click, irrespective of the food getting a bit below serving temperature! 

While all that happened, my friend and I, took a look around the bright and lively setting of this restaurant. It was nice and spaced out, with smaller seating available as well and then these community tables of 8 people I think?. Having made a quick trip to the ladies room, we realised up-satirs was a more "fine-dine" setting, seemed more private and dim, it could be that or the fact that no one was there! LOL

Food & Drinks

So, since we reached a tad bit late, a few starters were already on the table. We got to clicking, and munching and writing down everything we ate, for the purpose of this blog, so enjoy: 
Thai Calamari:

This one was a favourite amongst our table, and I'm sure in general also because the Chef said this one was their bestsellers. Crispy calamari rings, fried to perfection with a Thai concoction of ginger and green peppercorn.  I think our table got the most re-fills because everyone loved it! In words of my friend @aishcapades "Thai Calamari at Busaba Eathai created the kind of culinary delight that dynamite shrimps did for me years ago! I'm thinking when I get to have my next one!" Goong Tohd:

Stands for prawn tempura loosely. Again, one of the most favourited dish on the table, but everyone was talking about the sweet chilli sauce served with it, more than the prawns itself. Seems like the sauce really enhanced the breaded prawn! Unusual but pretty cool! 
Pandan Chicken:

So obviously, this was the right time to disclose my allergy to avoid starving, so I did, and luckily they were ver accommodative about that. Though, everyone on the table assumed it was part of the menu and wondered why the portion was less. Oops! So anyways, ​Pandan leaf chicken is one of the best specialty chicken dishes in Thailand. The chicken is moist, tender, infused with refreshing pandan aroma and encased in the leaf packets. ​Custom is to wrap the marinated boneless chicken meat inside a large piece of pandan leaf and deep-fry it. The amazing aroma of the leaves is infused into the chicken meat, giving the ordinary chicken a distinct flavour and unique presentation. It was interestingly yum! 
Duck Buns:

Almost like bao's, though I have to confess I have not eaten a pulled duck bun before just the regular pulled beef and chicken, and loved it, so I was actually looking forward to it. They came steaming hot from the kitchen but of course we clicked a ghazilion pictures and it was a bit not hot enough, but shockingly it tasted quite hot! Like it was spicy and had a sour kick to it as well from the tamarind and a it of crunch here and there from the cucumber. My seal of favourite goes to the Duck Buns undoubtedly. Go there just for these if you have to! #musttry
Char Grilled Lamb Chops:

Everyone on the table said that they were one of the "best lamb chops" in Dubai, amd my friend and me head-noddingly agreed. The meat maintained its integrity and was soft despite of being char-grilled for so long and also there was actual flavour to it, apart form the smokey charriness that usually ends up clouding and overpowering any other flavour! 2nd favourite of the lot! 
Char Grilled Beef Short Ribs:

Umm, it was nice, sure, but not the best! Like we have both eaten better ones around. It maybe that we got an overdone plate or something, but it was strictly average on taste, and the peppery sauce on the side did not do much to enhance it! 
Pad Thai with Chicken and Shrimps: 

Served separately of course, so we tried the chicken version and LOVED it! I'm cray about noodles and Pad Thai is one of my favourites. I think I was the last one standing who actually took a huge serving of the noodles. Good taste and non-greasy! Could eat it all, but i controlled myself.. 
Char Grilled Prawns:

I mean look at them? Giant prawns. I did not try them obviously and my friend was way too overstuffed with the other awesome food that she literally sealed her lips together refusing to take a bite. hehe. Feedback from the table was very positive about them and so they were gone n less than 60 seconds, so that is your indicator right there, that it was a cracker of a dish!

We loved our time at Busaba Eathai, and that would have not been possible without the lovely staff and chefs and the very very efficient PR/marketing team present at the venue! The food speaks for itself and is really really worth the hype and money! The location is so picturesque, almost perfect for planning a date! We felt it was a hidden gem, and something that deserves as much publicity and awareness as needed. They have also come up with a Business Lunch valued at AED 69/- and the All You Can Eat Saturday Brunch is for AED 150/-, where you can eat all you want for like 4 hours! 

PS: We had to leave, so we could not stay back for the dessert, but all the more reason to come back again!
