About

It started in the humble village homes of loving mothers preparing breakfast for their children, something to eat on their way to school. That is the story of how the manoushe tradition began.

What started as homemade food eventually reached the bustling street corner bakeries, making the manoushe available to all, a staple authentic Lebanese food, to be enjoyed at any time of the day. The simple & traditional manoushe is now becoming a modern day favorite, a nostalgic reminder of a mother's love.

Review

We were invited to the Jebel Ali branch for a tasting, and since my wife and I work in the vicinity, it was no issue for us to head there one day for a lunch! The funny thing was the outlet people were not aware about the invite, so obviously they weren't being accommodating at first, but after a few calls to the manager and some more back and forth calls, those people were convinced and we sat down finally eager to try them out, to especially try the healthy Lebanese they claim to serve!

Ambiance

It is located in a food court, so sadly it does not have an ambiance of its own to talk about. We did realize how tough the competition would be with at least 6-7 more food outlets lined up in the same room, including one more Lebanese place. Of course like all other F&B outlets they have a dedicated section for customers they are catering to!

Beverages

Drinks were an essential part of the whole experience because they were SO good!

Minty Rose Water:

The description read "classical Lebanese" and we knew we had to try it! I'm a big fan of rose flavored drinks, so this was a given to be liked. It is actually really refreshing and something you do not really get everywhere!
Fresh Yogurt:

What they actually meant was Laban, so yea we had this because my wife ordered it, in the bid of probiotics and digestive enzymes. Anyways, if you like laban, you will most definitely like this too!

Food

Hummus:

Creamy, and well flavored, I am almost always stunned about how Hummus can be differently made, with a distinct flavor difference. I can easily say I was famished but this one was really one of those really good batches of Hummus that both of us enjoyed eating, especially in that food court, where food choices are extremely commercial.
Spicy Sujuk Pizza:
Spicy sujuk on a special tomato sauce topped with cherry tomatoes, green pepper and three cheese melt on top.

"Lebanese pizza with a lot of pizazz"
is how I would clarify this goodness. The bread was just about the right thickness, and the topping was not greasy or overdone at all. The spicy sujuk which is basically a beef sausage crumbled on top was not exactly spicy enough for our taste but then, I guess they cater to a lot of people with different spice thresholds and it rather be a bit bland than over spiced because the latter cannot be rectified! Between the two of us, I ate the most of it and I don't think I was dying of a binge coma. I was just satiated. That is an amazing sign for sure!
Not Any Ceaser Salad:

Sliced chicken tenders marinated with herbs and thyme on a bed of crisp lettuce leaves, served with a side of croutons and homemade caesar dressing and then finally topped with parmesan! My wife ordered this and she said she is very partial to a caesar salad served in a particular coffee house and nothing ever matches to that, but she said this one could have well taken the well deserved second place! She said the lettuce to dressing ratio was on fleek and so was the fact that there was enough chicken for almost every bite of lettuce. The dressing was easily spreadable however she prefers dipping rather than dousing!

Verdict

Man'oushe Street is an upgraded version of classic Lebanese food, and yes it is definitely a healthier version than many of its counterparts! I really appreciate the fact that healthy food doesn't necessarily mean salads and water, normal food can be calorie controlled and healthy too! Man'oushe street has several branches all over town, so if you spot an outlet, do make your way there without thinking twice-health nut or not!

About - Their Story

Shawarmas. We grew up on them. We love them. And like about a billion other people, we can’t live without them. But they haven’t changed one bit since, like forever. We’re talking the same handful of heartburn from Turkey to Tajikistan and a million street corners in between. And frankly, that’s made them boring. Where’s the choice? Where’s the healthy stuff?

Call us crazy, but we believe food should taste good and be good for you too. So we took the old-fashioned street-style shawarma, threw in two hungry entrepreneurs and a celebrity chef then s’wiched it all up.

We re-designed and re-crafted every part of the beloved shawarma. We baked our own breads, found local and organic suppliers, created our own sauces, and sourced premium ingredients you won’t find anywhere else.

We tackled the boring bit head on, with a system no shawarma stand will ever be able to offer. You can create your shawarma any way you like, from more than 1 000 possible choices, there are never too many chefs in our kitchen. Then you can name it, save it and share it with others in the community.

It’s like our very own mini-revolution. (Hey we are in the Middle East). So from now on, there will be no more dodgy shawarma fillings. No more indigestion. No more regrets. Just the same awesome (or rather, much better) taste that will very soon lead to a healthy shawarmaddiction.

Review

We were invited to try out S'wich at their Marina branch after I had been to the other branch in Jumeirah for a bloggers event! The event including creating your own sandwich, with basically our choice of fillings and not only that, but it included an exclusive meet and greet with Aneesha Rai, who then taught us a bit about food photography and the art of flatlay through an app!

Anyways, it was a really good event, and the fact that the sandwiches we made would be still available under the given name, was truly exciting. So, in a bid to show off I asked my wife and sister to accompany me to this event.

Finding the place was a HUGE task because, the map drops a pin to the building, and we really had to ask around to actually make it to the outlet!

Ambiance

Well, the place is pretty much big enough to accommodate like 5 people for a dine-in. Think it majorly works for take-aways. The kitchen is open and you can see your sandwiches etc. being made! I do wish people come in pairs though, to really appreciate the kitsch tag lines and sayings and facts they have put up on their cutlery and serving boxes. It has a pretty cool vibe to it!

Drinks

For the drinks we had one of the healthy juices each.

The Hulk:

Kale, green apples, cucumber and ginger. Almost like a digestive, this one was not the best tasting but it did feel like it was detoxing me inside out!
Minted Lemonade:

Literally lemon juice with mint leaves, blended with some sugar. Not bad at all and very refreshing!
The Red Riding Good:

Orange:

Food

We were starving by the time we finally made it to the place, so we literally skimmed through the menu and ordered  fries to begin with, and then pondered on the fact that we should customise our sandwiches because s'wich is essentially about the "make your own concept". Of course you do have pre made stuff, if you cannot be asked to create and be imaginative.
Sweet Potato Fries:

My wife is obsessed with these. We are obviously huge potato fries fans but this is her new obsession. It is a hoax, if you think it is healthier than the regular fries, because these are fried as well! They may have more fibre compared to the latter, but hey! Anyways, the S'wich version was good too, just wished they had seasoned it a bit more!
Parmesan & Truffle Fries:

Ok, the first thing you notice about these is the fact that there is barely any parmesan on top, but the saving grace is the aromatic truffle oil flavour! It masks any other food smells and just overtakes the atmosphere. Could not stop eating them.
Chicken S'wich:
White saj, onions, pickles, hot potato cubes, toum and truffle sauce

Good portion was the first thought when my sister saw her shawarma. She said it tasted pretty good, and that it could have had a few more condiments to it, to make it a bit more flavourful. All in all, she said it is a tad bit pricey but also worth it.
Lettuce Plate W/ Chicken:

My wife ordered the lettuce plate which is basically a salad with chicken as a choice of protein and toppings such a a harissa, siracha and chipotle mayo. Now, you would think she would be suffering a running nose or would be crying a river, but my wife has the biggest threshold for spice and it was once again confirmed then. She said she loved her order and freshness that came with the salad and the fact that it was not doused in the dressing sauces.
Beef Saj Customised:

So I ended up recreating my saj from the event that I went to, because yes, I like it so much. The combination of a beef filling, toum, chipotle mayo with hot potato cubes, caramelized onions and pine nuts with oregano is one of the most unusual and fulfilling combinations I have had!

Verdict

We had a splendid time at S'wich. The food is commendable and I honestly felt it was value for money. Everything is gourmet style and the customisations are everything! It is not like your regular cafeteria food, hence if you are craving something of that calibre, do bother with S'wich, however if you want your shawerma not dripping with oil and filled with quality ingredients, please head there or order in. No disappointments- garunteed!

About

JAAN AT THE PENTHOUSE is a progressive Indian cuisine restaurant, the brainchild of Chef & Owner Farrokh Khambata. Drawing inspiration from the finest produce from the Japan, Far East and Europe, their chef team has created mind blowing combinations to raise the expectations of Dubai's dining scene to another level.

JAAN boasts spectacular views of the Dubai coastline & epic views of the Burj Khalifa which is a an added attraction.

Review

We were ecstatic to be invited to Jaan At The Penthouse, because despite of it opening its doors to the public like 2-3 weeks ago, it had already made waves with people raving about the gastronomy and the ambiance. For us, when we entered we already has SUCH high hopes, and we were glad that nothing about our experience disappointed us.

Entering a place on the rooftop of Sofitel Downtown has to picturesque, sure, but what caught our attention the most was the neon pink sign board! The ambiance is very classy with the place divided into a smoking and non smoking section. There is an open kitchen which I personally love, just to see the cooks in action!

Extra special mention to the amazing staff on the floor. We had, with us a toddler on the table that night and the entire staff and even the chef were courteous enough to accommodate the baby’s food needs. It was something that struck a chord with us and we genuinely really appreciated it!

F&B

JAAN brings to the diner a unique concept of using the best produce the world has to offer and infusing these ingredients with exotic herbs, flavorings and spices, keeping in line with India’s gastronomic heritage. We had a set menu, with a choice of cocktails and mocktails to begin with and our very helpful and cheerful guided us with them!

Drinks

Smoking Cosmo:

Literally like a regular cosmo, but served in glass that mimics a smokers pipe and it had some dry ice in it for the "smoking" element! It was same but different, and the fact that you consume the drink like you would be smoking a pipe was pretty cool and fancy. My wife was impressed.
Seven Minutes In Heaven:

This was my choice and was a mix of champagne and elder flower, and contrary to my belief of it just being a glass of champagne, it had some infused flavours and fragrances that changed the taste completely and for the better! I do recollect luxuriating in every sip of it!
There were couple of more drinks, one gin based and one scotch based, both of which I have forgotten the fancy names of, but what I do remember is that they were EXTREMELY potent, and definitely worth your money, and not to forget- Delicious too!

Food

Life of Nemo:
Kuromaguro blue fin tuna.. busto style, spiced dashi condiment.

Full points to the presentation, team Jaan! Chunks of tuna served on a fish bowl, with live fishes inside. A treat to the eyes as well as the the taste buds. The toddler was super excited looking at it as well and actually let us eat the perfectly marinated Japanese favourite!
Big Head Prawns:
Indian Butter Garlic Style

These came on a skewer with all the meat intact in the shell almost glued to garlic-y cheese that had melted on top. To eat, these were without a doubt a pure delight!
Hunter’s Poussin:
clay oven cooked young chicken supremes with basil and cumin

Chicken makes my wife happy, and in this case even our team who joined us for the dinner that night. Subtle flavours with the chicken marinated with spices and clay oven baked. A good appetite option and we appreciated the fact that the portions were well thought of for an extensive set menu!
Kokkaido Mushrooms and Truffle Kofta:
erring.. reishi.. shitake.. truffle kofta a savoury ball

We had a vegetarian on our team so, she eagerly waited for her turn to eat some goodness. Like it mentions on the menu it was indeed a kofta served on a sauce of some kind, that just enhanced the truffle infused mushroom filling. Classic with a twist.
Dhaba Highway Restaurant Butter Chicken:
Hand pulled butter chicken. classic style

The presentation of this dish was just too cute not to smile cheekily, but what was even better was the main dish itself. A complete cracker, it out did any good butter chicken we may have consumed in Dubai. We are certainly craving for more and will make our way back like super soon.
Sizzling Chole Hommus with Amritsari Kulcha:
a hummus with whole chickpeas and punjabi spices. stuffed and leavened breakfast bread.

I mean, what could one do different with chole right? But the chef completely surprised us when the it was served on a sizzling platter with a side of its own set of bread stuffed with a potato filling, commonly know as an Amritsari kulcha! The consistency of the whole was a bit thick and we assumed it was because of the hummus element added to it. It definitely tasted nothing like we have eaten before!
Kashmir ke Gucci whole Himalayan Truffle:
Clay oven smoked and spiked, quinoa and truffle churned butter rise

Pulao, but not just any pulao. This was pulao doused in Truffle butter which obviously took it to a whole another level!
Jaan Bread Basket:
Consisted of roomaali rotis, garlic butter naan and plain flat breads.
Normandie Dairy Dal:
black dal enhanced with the world’s best cream and butter

One of the most creamiest and tastes dal makhani ever! We don’t know what the cream component used was but it did enhance the flavours as opposed to dulling it. We felt our belts getting tighter with every bite we took. #caloriesgalore

Desserts

French Toast Shahi Tukda:
maple cinnamon squeeze, almandine kulfi a milk reduction ice cream

Gobsmacked. That is what we were when we took a bite of this amazing looking dessert! It almost felt like a filled donut, but better. A LOT better. The filling was cheese of some sort that complimented the toast bit of the dish. Also, alongside we were served a kulfi shaped like an ice cream candy. A bit too frozen for out liking but super cute!
Nirvana:
Saffron panna cotta, thandai mousse, raspberry pour

Sliced like butter, this pannacotta has got to be a part of your “must try” lists in Dubai. Perfect consistency with the just the right amount of sweetness intact. The raspberry coulis was just what kind of was missing to completely the pannacotta as a dessert! One of my absolute favourite!

Go, run, make your bookings right now! This has to be your new IT spot for all those kittens and parties and celebrations that are up an coming! Dining here is an experience of a kind, and food with literally blow your mind. Calories that need to be eaten because you wont be able to put the fork down. If you are really the sale types, just go for the kickass cocktails and desserts, and it will still be worth it! Oh, and if by chance you are feeling a bit cold at the restaurant, they are kind enough to offer you a pashmina that is hot pink, to soothe that cold! Not, bad at all!

Review

The Indian cuisine is a broad and colourful spectrum of ginormous variety, from its sweets, tangy starters, chaats, dishes enriched with an array of spices and condiments. A restaurant should be able to capture all of that, all the while glorify the country’s rich tradition in order to provide a “cultural experience” for those foreign and evoke memories for those not. Does Medley’s Indian Night package do all of that?
Yes, in ways, but does not realize the full potential of the cuisine. There is not much offered here in terms of variety, especially for vegetarians. From what we had the food was flavorful and the dishes encapsulated the key ingredients that make them so significant in the cuisine. The buffet sets up a simple navigation through each course while the live cooking stations only adding to the experience. The service is to be complimented as well, they kept checking in on us every now and then to make sure we were having a decent time. If buffets are your something you look into, Medley’s Indian Night could easily be one of the reasons you take a long walk on a Friday night.

Ambiance

The upmarket and colorful decor sets your mood riht from the moment you enter. The colorful Indian silk cloth draped onto the tables were a charming touch. The lighting scheme is bright and inviting which is always a good thing. In one word the ambiance is, Exotic!

Food

The food in terms of taste is probably what you would expect from a good Indian restaurant serving delectable items. However we did find traces of excessive oil and greasiness in some of the dishes, which no one should expect from a fine dining entity of such caliber.
Some of the fan favorite dishes were nowhere to be found like samosas, papadums, dal makhani, paneer makhanwala to name a few. It’s a shame considering their paneer offerings were some of the best especially the Ajwani Paneer Tikka and Matar Paneer.
Non-vegetarians should have enough to choose from and the Butter Chicken is a standout from the category. Some of the non Indian offerings on the buffet table really took me out of the experience like an out of place khaboos breads.

Desserts

The desserts were grounded and offered all the popular items from jalebis, rasmali’s, halwa’s etc.

Verdict

Maybe in a different mind state I would have enjoyed Medley’s Indian Night a lot more than I did. If you’re not too fussy about having an overall experience and food is the only thing you care about then surely you are bound to have a good time. It is also an easy entry for those looking to explore the Indian culinary for the first time. An expansion in their buffer line up with a few popular dishes would definitely be something I would hope for. Ultimately, this is a step in the right direction and there is plenty of time for implementation in Medley’s Indian Night.

About

Jedoudna, quite simply meaning Our Ancestors. The Jedoudna experience is about sampling authentic Lebanese recipes that have been handed down from one generation to the next. It is a culinary journey on which family and friends experience all the colors, energy and tradition of this ancient Middle Eastern cuisine, with time honored dishes.

A sitting at Jedoudna is a treasure trove filled with joys of authentic Lebanese food, as served throughout the ages.

Review

We visited Jedoudna, on a whim on a Friday afternoon, with my parents, because we had an invite from them, and it was something that even they were excited about! Arabic/Lebanese cuisine has been the only unanimous decision we as a family can make together, when it comes to food! So anyways, since we live in JLT, we decide to Tram it, thereby skipping the whole traffic and parking hassle completely, and fortunately for us, it was barely a 400m walk from the Tram station!

We sat ourselves inside because it is quite hot during the afternoons, and despite of the people pouring in we managed to get a table! Lucky.

Food

Our server, a sweet lady offered us the menu cards and we somehow did not need them, because we knew what we wanted to eat, so we just started ordering! We ordered the Jedoudna Hummous, Hummous Fetit, Zaatar Labneh Manakeesh, Chicken Shawarma, Sheesh Tawook Plate, Lahem Bajeen which was the highlight of the day, Ayraan, Watermelon juice etc. All of which was really really good.
Hummus:

One of the smoothest and flavourful portion of Hummus, is served at Jedoudna! We have been to countless number of Lebanese places to dine, even the most commercial ones, but this one is one of our favourites and there are only 2, so go figure! We really wished there was more like size wise, we felt the portion of the hummus could have been larger!
Fatit Hummus:

This is my absolute favourite, and now my wife and parents love it too! Its vegetarian generally, but there are chicken options available! It is basically a chickpeas and fried pita dish, drenched in tahini and yogurt. For us Indians, it is almost like chaat. It is a very refreshing and filling appetiser to have just before lunch.
Zaatar Labneh Manakish:

A childhood favourite, I am obsessed with Zaatar as a spice. My wife totally does not get the fuss about it, but that is because, being from Bombay, she has not grown up eating it every other day with a thick layer of labneh on the pita bread/roti. Jedoudna had their freshly cooked version on a thicker base which was really soft with just about the right balance of Labneh and Zaatar! It was perfect.
Shish Tawook:

My wife's absolute favourite! She loves grilled chicken options, and this one because it is marinated with spices and served with a particular garlic sauce, it is her favourite! This version was good on quality, flavour and quantity! The chicken was soft and well cooked and the garlic sauce is definitely refill worthy! The side of chips were enjoyed by all.
Chicken Shawerma:

Again hot and fresh, it was better than many others that we have had, because of mainly 2 things, that are the chicken used should be actual meat and not charred pieces that have been cut and left to dry up further. Secondly, the sauces. A lot of  joints are quite conservative while loading the sandwich with required sauces, but this one was perfect! We actually wanted a spicy version which was not available so we called for some spicy sauce on the side.
Lamb Arayes:

Again, one of our favourites! It is amazing how a minced lamb made with tomatoes and spread thinly on flat bread can be so tasty! The lime makes all the difference in the taste and drastically, makes it even more appetising than it already is.
Lahem Bajeen:

This one my all time favourites. The minced meat was not only soft it was juicy as well which made it one of the best dishes on the table.

Jedoudna is one of those quality Lebanese cuisine places, that are so rare. It may not be as commercial as the other ones but it sure is worth it! They have another branch in Media City I suppose, if JBR is a bit far. The food is decently priced and the area is quite big so chances of scoring a place are good. Totally make a trip here for a surity to be eating a amazing Lebanese food!

About

Busaba Eathai is one of the UK’s leading Thai restaurants, founded in 1999 by Alan Yau, creator of Hakkasan and Wagamama, now open at THE BEACH, Dubai. Busaba is known for its exquisite and reasonably priced Thai delicacies, flavorsome selection of freshly prepared salads, stir fries and curries, noodle dishes, grilled meats and fish. Signature dishes include the Massaman Duck Curry, Ginger Beef Stir Fry and Thai Calamari.

Review

I was so so hesitant to go for this particular tasting, even after having been to like maybe 1000's, only because I'm severely allergic to any kind of seafood and Thai food is literally based on it, and I just feel too much of a brat showering the restaurant owners and chef's with my delightful food restrictions, making their job harder! Also, it was a lunch even so my husband could not make it, and I just knew, everyone would be wanting to meet and greet "The Tasterpreneur" and not his plus 1. After all, he is the brains behind this whole thing.

So anyways, husband said there is no choice and it is an event I cannot miss, so i buckled up and asked one of my favourite gym bud Aishwarya to join me along and be my +1 for that afternoon, and thankfully she very graciously agreed! Whoop!

Getting There

I will not lie, getting a car to The Beach is bloody pain, must always always always just metro/tram it. Valet or no valet. We obviously got stuck in some stagnant traffic, and then everyone there seemed so clueless that it took us longer than expected to reach our venue! Famished, we made it there and I just kept reminding myself "pictures!" "must take many pictures" (thanks husband). We were greeted by a super sweet lady who was, just so excited to know we came on behalf of The Tasterpreneur! She said, how much his opinion mattered to restaurants and it can nearly make or break their efforts.

With no pressure at all after hearing that, we were given an option to seat ourselves at this community table setting, where a bunch of people or "zomans" or #bloggers and "influencers" were already comfortable, with their DSLR's flashing brighter than the sun directly pointed at the food, to get that one perfect click, irrespective of the food getting a bit below serving temperature!

While all that happened, my friend and I, took a look around the bright and lively setting of this restaurant. It was nice and spaced out, with smaller seating available as well and then these community tables of 8 people I think?. Having made a quick trip to the ladies room, we realised up-satirs was a more "fine-dine" setting, seemed more private and dim, it could be that or the fact that no one was there! LOL

Food & Drinks

So, since we reached a tad bit late, a few starters were already on the table. We got to clicking, and munching and writing down everything we ate, for the purpose of this blog, so enjoy:
Thai Calamari:

This one was a favourite amongst our table, and I'm sure in general also because the Chef said this one was their bestsellers. Crispy calamari rings, fried to perfection with a Thai concoction of ginger and green peppercorn.  I think our table got the most re-fills because everyone loved it! In words of my friend @aishcapades "Thai Calamari at Busaba Eathai created the kind of culinary delight that dynamite shrimps did for me years ago! I'm thinking when I get to have my next one!" (check out her insta)
Goong Tohd:

Stands for prawn tempura loosely. Again, one of the most favourited dish on the table, but everyone was talking about the sweet chilli sauce served with it, more than the prawns itself. Seems like the sauce really enhanced the breaded prawn! Unusual but pretty cool!
Pandan Chicken:

So obviously, this was the right time to disclose my allergy to avoid starving, so I did, and luckily they were ver accommodative about that. Though, everyone on the table assumed it was part of the menu and wondered why the portion was less. Oops! So anyways, Pandan leaf chicken is one of the best specialty chicken dishes in Thailand. The chicken is moist, tender, infused with refreshing pandan aroma and encased in the leaf packets. Custom is to wrap the marinated boneless chicken meat inside a large piece of pandan leaf and deep-fry it. The amazing aroma of the leaves is infused into the chicken meat, giving the ordinary chicken a distinct flavour and unique presentation. It was interestingly yum!
Duck Buns:

Almost like bao's, though I have to confess I have not eaten a pulled duck bun before just the regular pulled beef and chicken, and loved it, so I was actually looking forward to it. They came steaming hot from the kitchen but of course we clicked a ghazilion pictures and it was a bit not hot enough, but shockingly it tasted quite hot! Like it was spicy and had a sour kick to it as well from the tamarind and a it of crunch here and there from the cucumber. My seal of favourite goes to the Duck Buns undoubtedly. Go there just for these if you have to! #musttry
Char Grilled Lamb Chops:

Everyone on the table said that they were one of the "best lamb chops" in Dubai, amd my friend and me head-noddingly agreed. The meat maintained its integrity and was soft despite of being char-grilled for so long and also there was actual flavour to it, apart form the smokey charriness that usually ends up clouding and overpowering any other flavour! 2nd favourite of the lot!
Char Grilled Beef Short Ribs:

Umm, it was nice, sure, but not the best! Like we have both eaten better ones around. It maybe that we got an overdone plate or something, but it was strictly average on taste, and the peppery sauce on the side did not do much to enhance it!
Pad Thai with Chicken and Shrimps:

Served separately of course, so we tried the chicken version and LOVED it! I'm cray about noodles and Pad Thai is one of my favourites. I think I was the last one standing who actually took a huge serving of the noodles. Good taste and non-greasy! Could eat it all, but i controlled myself..
Char Grilled Prawns:

I mean look at them? Giant prawns. I did not try them obviously and my friend was way too overstuffed with the other awesome food that she literally sealed her lips together refusing to take a bite. hehe. Feedback from the table was very positive about them and so they were gone n less than 60 seconds, so that is your indicator right there, that it was a cracker of a dish!

Verdict

We loved our time at Busaba Eathai, and that would have not been possible without the lovely staff and chefs and the very very efficient PR/marketing team present at the venue! The food speaks for itself and is really really worth the hype and money! The location is so picturesque, almost perfect for planning a date! We felt it was a hidden gem, and something that deserves as much publicity and awareness as needed. They have also come up with a Business Lunch valued at AED 69/- and the All You Can Eat Saturday Brunch is for AED 150/-, where you can eat all you want for like 4 hours!

PS: We had to leave, so we could not stay back for the dessert, but all the more reason to come back again!

About

SOY is a modern Asian dining concept offering popular Chinese flavours and a sprinkle of the far-east. Their menu offers a variety of all time favourites and exciting interactive concepts, which are sure to leave you spell bound.

Review

My wife really wanted to try Soy, because she passes it like literally everyday after her gym, AND she is big oriental fan. So, this one Thursday night my sisters and she hijacked me to this restaurant with much gusto, and I had no choice but to go with the flow, because all 3 of them had decided that is only where they are going to eat. Now, we had no reservations so I hoped maybe we might not get a table but surprising a lot of tables were free at a 9pm on a Thursday night. Anyways..

Food

I skimmed through the menu, but the women were in charge that day and they already had though about what they wanted to eat. So we placed our order real quick.
BBQ Chicken Dimsums:

I mean, this was a no-brainer because hello! my wife LOVES dimsums. The sad thing was everything arrived together so everyone was bit overwhelmed as to begin with what. Anyways for the dimsums, there were 6 orange-ish red packages of pasty goodness. I say pasty because the skin was too thick for our liking and goodness because the filling was spectacular! We obviously inhaled them in a few seconds, max. There was a in-house chilli sauce that made ALL the difference in the world!
Peking Duck Rolls:

I am a big fan of these ever since my wife introduced these to me like a year back, so why not try it when it is there on the menu, and also because this was my choice of food dish to order! It arrived in all its glory with duck breast sliced perfectly, the cucumber and the spring onions juliennes with plum sauce and the steaming pan cakes.  It looked so good that I was sure it would taste equally amazing, but the biggest bummer was that the duck was a bit too dry because probably it was overdone, and there is literally no respite for that! We ate a few and then just left the rest. It pinched a bit because duck is quite expensive, so it was definitely not worth it.
Sweet and Sour Chicken:

My sister raved about this dish since the time we sat in our car to leave for Soy, which is like 15 minutes long, and sadly this dish was the most disappointing thing on our table that night. Firstly, it was not even remotely warm and then to top it off it was sooooo damn sweet it could easily pass off as a dessert, and lastly the chicken was extremely overcooked, almost to the point of being crispy chips! It was definitely one of the worst dishes I have ever had in my life. Do.Not.Order!
Kung Pao Chicken:

This was one of the best we got served that night. The chicken was not drenched in soya sauce or was extremely spicy. In fact we were surprised it tasted pretty good and the quantity luckily was enough for two people to eat with rice, so not bad at all. The dish had too many cashews but it was definitely tolerable!
Chicken Green Thai Curry with Jasmine Rice:
The second winning dish for the night. This was served on a flaming pot and the flavours were so subtle and not trying so hard to be Thai, which in my opinion is pathetic, when the lemongrass or the coconut milk overpowers like everything. The portion size was a good shareable type and we did have to call for two portions of steamed rice with it! Actually, in retrospect we felt we could definitely come back for this. Not bad at all..

Verdict

Soy, had its highs and lows with us, and we unanimously felt that it was a pretty average restaurant with very average food, especially for the price that we paid. Zaroob that has opened up newly, in the same area would have been a much better choice! The food is nothing that will blow your mind and at the same time it is not tragic either. But, if I were you, I would spend my money someplace better!

Review

It was so exciting to be invited to an all you can eat "night brunch" at Level Seven, the restaurant, in the newly opened W Hotel, in Al Habtoor City. The thing is it was not only a all-you-can-eat-buffet, but a buffet catered to meat-lovers or carnivores basically! How exciting does that sound? It was an unmissable event so we cleared up our schedules and built some appetite and strutted towards the very stylish W hotel!

Ambiance

W Hotel, is quite funky generally all over the world and we felt this difference so prominently the second we entered the Dubai version because it is such a contrast from the usual brightly lit with giant chandeliers and drapes that literally all the other hotels display. This one was dim with blue LED lights fired in a random order. The staff looked as though casually dressed, although that might just be their uniform.

Through the lift we made our way to Level Seven, where were greeted by a life size cow stature. Hilarious. And just behind it was our sweet manager lady who sat us on a table of our choice, overlooking the open kitchen. The thing about open kitchens is that, the restaurant needs to be extremely confident with their chefs because there is no way to hide. Moving on to the restaurant in general, of course it wasn't the usual, but decorated with shiny metal utensils and funky looking jars as lamps as opposed to opulent chandeliers. There was a designated place close to the outside-of-kitchen refrigerator specifically for the cold cuts, as was one called a carving station!

Food

Salad Station:
We started of the amazing salad station to open up our appetites, and gorged on the yum stir fried mushrooms, parmesan shavings, the chicken and pineapple salad amongst many others. I was actually ready for a second helping when i realised we have 5 more stations to cover.
While crunching, our drinks arrived and while we are not very sure about the names, mine was a gin and fruit based extremely potent cocktail, while my wife had a vodka based, mixed with egg white and limoncello cocktail, which she seemed to really like!
Cold Cuts Station:
On to the next, it was the cold cuts section there was a huge variety of chicken, beef and lamb mortadella's. But not only that, to satisfy the sea-foodies they also had some oysters at the back! Amazing and impressive stuff.
Hot Stuff Station:
This was obviously my favourite station because it included bite size portioned hot food, being prepared right in front of our eyes. There were tons of varieties which included a lamb tajine, a spinach and cheese ravioli, a mushroom and duck risotto which was outstanding, a seafood paella which was worth the rave, a classic lasagne, ad a vegetarian cannelloni. We literally took a break after this so as to accommodate more food.
Carving station:
Pretty cool, they had an out of this world beef wellington! The pastry layer was so crisp and the beef was medium well-which is exactly how we like it. There was a giant salmon fillet crusted with herbs just up for grabs. There was a whole chicken, agin herbed and crusted, and all these came with accompaniments which included mashed potato, cheesy cauliflower, mushroom sauce and a bunch of other things that would complete a rotisserie meal.
The Man Food Station:
This one had pieces of meat just laid out for display, for us to select and them to grill it to perfection and serve. I had the chicken breast fillet grilled and , while it was a bit on the chewy side, my lamb steak was perfection. They also had beef sliders and pizza!! We also found Arancini balls lined up that side and obviously grabbed them too.
Sweet Station:
We were probably a bit late to this party, because by the time we made it here, most of the desserts were over and the chef's seemed to be packing up already. They did not seemed to please to serve us the desserts that were still available but then they did regardless. Out of which the berry panna cotta and the chocolate mousse were amazing. The rest had been laid out for far too long to maintain their integrity! Alas..

MEAT ME @ W Hotel is definitely an experience not only for meat lovers surprisingly but also for people who prefer sea-food or even vegetarians! The place itself is a treat to the eyes and the cocktails are pretty amazing! It is one of the best night-time buffets we have been to in a long time and would definitely recommend it to all our friends.

Review

What stands out immediately at Pachanga is how communal the vibe is. It’s a restaurant where you go to celebrate, where memories are made, where everyone in the dining room has something in common. Everyone who’s ever dined there tends to look upon that memory with fondness, relishing perhaps not the best meal ever had, but one of the most enjoyable ones.
We were really excited to be invited to Pachanga at the Hilton JBR for an event called ‘the 2nd Savoie Week’.  But when we got there, we were in for a complete surprise - the Latin American Steakhouse at the Hilton JBR had been totally transformed into a French Bistro from the Alpine Savoie region. Gone was the sign that read ‘Pachanga’ – instead, we walked in through a cobbled arch proudly bearing the name ‘Les Gentianettes’.
What followed was an unforgettable few hours – every aspect of Pachanga had been dressed up as a Savoie restaurant and we were transported to the French Alps. A group of musicians from the Alpine countryside serenaded the diners with live music from the French Savoie throughout the evening, raucously at first, and then a melodically ebbing away as the night grew and the amazing wine selection took its course. A little market at the center of the restaurant featured jewellery, trinkets, and dresses from the Savoie, all staffed by people who had actually made the journey to Dubai from France.
One of the biggest aspects of what makes an evening memorable is who you share it with. And when you opt for fine-dining, you’re also sharing your night with the restaurant service – the hostess, the waiters, and the busboys – all of who you get to know as your meal progresses. The Hilton is naturally associated with great service, but our waiter (Sanjog) and the rest of the team really made us feel special that night, and nothing beats that feeling.
With everything going so wonderfully (especially the wine, ooh-la-la!), we decided to get adventurous with our all-French menu. We feasted on Escargots – giant snail baked with herbs, butter, and garlic – surprisingly approachable and delicious. The chef behind the evening’s magic, Claude Trincaz, then sent out a delicious plate of French pasta, followed by one of the best fondues we’ve ever tried. One might think that there’s not much to cubes of bread and a pot of melted cheese, but the gulf in class between a bad fondue and good one is only apparent once you put yourself out there and try a lot of them.
Desserts were maybe less interesting, and we didn’t particularly enjoy the Crème Brulee or the sweet Brioche, but that didn’t take away from the evening at all, especially considering how full we were already.

Every ingredient at Pachanga / Les Gentianettes seems to be treated with a wholesome respect, a sentiment that the staff applies to service as well. Of course, this is a Hilton restaurant, graciousness and unpretentiousness reign supreme here, despite the fine dining surroundings.

The first Tony Roma’s in the Middle East was opened in Dubai, at the Ibn Battuta Mall on May 12, 2005. Since then the company has grown to 3 locations in Dubai and is currently looking for further expansion within the UAE.

Review

We LOVED Tony Roma's so much as kids, we used to eat there so often. But somewhere down the line, so many new outlets opened up or health factors kicked in and Tony Roma's was somehow forgotten. So, when we got an opportunity to check out their branch in IBN Battuta Mall, we were kind of nostalgically happy about it! We made our way there on a weekday afternoon and were quite impressed with the turnout of people already there. One sweet member from the staff then sat us at our table and handed us their menu along with the new "Savour The Flavour" section!

Food

We started off with some appetisers and some drinks.

Boneless Chicken Bites:

These we like lil chicken nuggets, drenched in buffalo sauce, and served with a ranch dressing. They were SOOO good. One of our favourite dishes on the table. The portions are big so it makes sense to share, though beware; you would not want to share them!
Kickin' Shrimp:

The description said fried shrimps in a spicy cream sauce and we got just that! We really appreciated that they were not trying to ape the dynamite shrimps from CPK or PF Changs, but did their own version of it. It was one of the best tasting shrimps I have had in  a very long time! Again, a very shareable portion.
Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Chicken:

Two grilled chicken breasts, smothered with roasted garlic and rosemary BBQ sauce, sprinkled with parmesan and we got ours with a side of stir-fried broccoli and loaded mashed potato. Heavenly is the right objective for this dish! The chicken was beaten thin but still remained succulent and juicy and full of flavour! The side of broccoli although a bit oily, was very appetising because of the garlic toss maybe and the loaded mash is definitely the only way to go herewith!
Bountiful Beef Ribs & Fillet Medallions:

OMG the portions! This one was hugeeee, with two giant beef ribs and two medallions glazed with a demi glace sauce! The ribs were almost falling off the bone and tasted delicious! The medallions however were a bit overdone we felt, but the sticky and sweet glaze made up for it! We got a side of fries and shredded corn that came with a knob of butter on top! Extremely NOM. It was one of those perfect game day meals! Definitely a must try..

Monthly Comedy Nights: Boudoir

Boudoir Comedy Nights have been the highlight of my past few Saturday nights for a while now, and I could not even contain my joy when I got to know that:

A) SORABH PANT
B) My husband is the opening act for him!!!

OMG. Anticipation equalled my sheer excitement to a be apart of the show and I literally could not wait to be a part of the audience of this perfect line up!

Opening Act: Pawan Manghnani

Some local magic was added to this event with an opening act by Blogger, Theatre Artist & Stand-Up Comedian Pawan Manghnani, before the show. Pawan has opened the show for Sorabh back in 2012 at The Address Dubai Marina so this was a good comeback!

The D-day arrives and after a little nervous banter with everyone who showed up, I sat there waiting to see my husband initiate the show in a process they call "warm-up", and boy, it was one hell of a warm-up. He, oh so confidently owned the stage and spoke about his traditional parents, and how arranged marriage was their hobby almost and some random but such relatable experiences any married couple may have faced. I was just enthralled by the whole thing and so were people around me, including my my aunt and cousin who were just in awe to see Pawan Manghnani perform. I may be biased but the audience chuckle around me just confirmed my hubby was punny; err funny!

Headliner: Sorabh Pant

We are glad to bring to Dubai a brand new show i.e 'My Baby Thinks I'M FUNNY' by one of India's funniest men, Sorabh Pant. Sorabh was born to make people laugh and he is a natural at doing so.

The Times of India has rated Sorabh Pant among India's top 10 stand-up comedians. Sorabh was a writer on the show News On The Loose, anchored by Vir Das on CNBC-TV18 in 2008. What helped him cement his place as a stand-up artist were his opening acts for Vir Das's show Walking On Broken Das later that year. His first solo performance was called Pant on Fire which came out in November 2009. 2011 saw the release of his first novel titled Wednesday Soul. He's also the founder of India's busiest comedy company, The East India Comedy. Pant's show Traveling Pants is heading to Delhi in September 2014.

Show: "My Baby Thinks I'M Funny"

Sorabh Pant wanted a dog. His wife wanted a baby. So, they had a baby. And, neither of them have slept since. In his new stand-up special, Pant talks about the wonderful insanity of becoming a father. Proceeds from this show go straight to Pant's son's pre-school funds. And, maybe college.
I did understand the need for the opening act, because when Sorabh Pant was introduced the audience was ready, and so in the zone! Any words I say will fall short to describe just how AMAZING Mr. Pant is in what he does. I was honestly a bit edgy about the topic at first but the actual reality is anything the man says is riotous!
His sense of humour is boisterous and he makes everything he is saying sound hilariously valid. I found myself agreeing while laughing so hard about baby-isms and you guys, I don't even have a baby! There were jokes about everything you can imagine, about how him and his wife conceived, pregnancy period, having a baby finally and then something about gender discrepancies and how obviously girls are better. LOL.
Humour is something people inherently enjoy, but there also needs to be something wrong, unsettling, and threatening in some way, and while we address them as violations, comedians use them as one-liners as a part of their set. It is this risk-taking, this truth telling that makes people howl uncontrollably and every member of EIC does that! That is one of the reasons their shows are sold out and people actually cannot wait for more! They are my favourite people at the moment for comical relief, led by none other than Sorabh Pant. The baap of comedy.
If you guys sat this one out, make sure you get your butts to the next one whenever there is one, and we promise to your cheeks will hurt and your mascara might flow because of laughing and crying at the same time.
PS: Mark Twain once said that “The secret source of humor itself is not joy, but sorrow. There is no humour in heaven.”  #BabiesMakeYouFunny.

About

Dusit Thani Dubai is an iconic 5-star luxury hotel that captures the essence of Thailand in the vibrant centre of this cosmopolitan city, the jewel of the UAE. The Friday Brunch is spread across 3 of their restaurants on the 24th floor namely Benjarong, Pax and The Californian.

Review

The idea of a brunch at the Dusit Thani, is exciting as it is because they are home to one of the most popular cafes called Jones The Grocer and one of the very popular bars called Nippon Bottle company. Dusit Thani is definitely a public magnet in terms of its F&B outlets, and even though we’ve been to the formerly mentioned outlets, we hadn’t been able to try the other restaurants like Benjarong or PAX for that matter, so were extremely elated when we received the invitation for a “combined brunch” by Dust Thani. A combined brunch is something that takes place on the 24th floor of the hotel (spectacular views) and 3 restaurants namely Benjarong, Pax and The Californian participate in it, and offer an array of food varieties for the brunch, because why not spoil the customer for choice not only with the food items but also different cuisines. Anyways, we penciled in our brunch for Friday afternoon and were really looking forward to it.

Ambiance

Picturesque views of the Burj Khalifa from the 24th floor of the hotel, is enough to be gawking at while eating, isn't it? The good thing is the whole brunch is set up in a circular fashion so you really do not need to walk lengths back and forth while grabbing something to eat or wanting a refill. The live pasta counter has some magical pull to it which got everyone to line up at some point during their brunch! There are plenty table by the window so the view can be enjoyed by mostly all, so no more settling for a bad seating anywhere!

Food

As expected we were greeted so warmly by their super efficient staff and were given one of the best tables with a view. I was ready with my camera and phone battery completely charged so as to not fall short of the billion shots i would take because this brunch spread was MASSIVE.
There was literally food everywhere, even in sneaky lil places we almost missed, but didn’t. While our glasses kept getting refreshed with bubbly by the very generous server for the day, we grabbed food intermittently so as to balance out the alcohol! LOL.
It is impossible to list out the brunch menu items because they were unending but if i really had to give a special mention to it would be the Chicken Shawerma- which was beyond amazing, the fact that they have UNLIMITED DIMSUMS!
They had Khao Suey guys, beside all the pad thai and chicken curries and Anarcini’s and cannelloni’s on the other side!!
And have you ever seen a croquembouche for dessert? At least I haven’t, and they very genuinely did a very good mass produced red-velvet cake that was not all dried up an actually worth the calories
We took our time and re-filled our plates because we wanted to experience at least a bit from every counter! Now we aren’t really big on seafood but we did speak to some really happy looking brunchee’s, who said the variety and the quality of food is beyond anything they had ever expected.

Verdict

We had a splendid time during our brunch, and would recommend it to anyone who is confused next about a brunch place! It super cost effective, and with the millions of dishes you will not have a boring moment. They cater to allergies and recommend dishes safe for you. It is not overcrowded like some other places so it is possible to get food when you want it rather than to wait in line and have your appetite fade, and there is also some chart-busting music playing in the background to give you company while your loved one is too busy taking pictures of the food. :P Parking is not an issue at all, and if you get too wasted you always have a choice to book a room in the hotel and plop. #justsaying!

Oh and if you made it to the end of this blog, we are also running a competition, in collaboration with PAX Ristorante and Lounge, wherein you and a loved one can get a chance to participate in the #MenMakeDinnerAtDusit #MenAreRomanticToo #CookingLessons #ItalianDateNight in which the guy gets a chance to cook for his lady under the guidance of the Executive Chef of course!

About

Wendy's is an American international fast food restaurant chain founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The company moved its headquarters to Dublin, Ohio, on January 29, 2006. As of 2016, Wendy's was the world's third largest hamburger fast food chain with 6,490 locations, following Burger King's 15,003 locations and McDonald's' 36,525 locations.

Review

We were on our way to the GITEX exhibit when we decided to stop and fuel ourselves first. Wendy's seemed like the most appealing option at the time on SZR. It was super cool to see that it was quite spacious since they have an upstairs area and the menu looked refreshed and updated! We were frankly undermining the place but this was off to a good start..

Food

Chilli Cheese Fries:

Omg these fries!!! Top up our fries with cheese and we will lick it to the spoon, and in this case fork! These fries- since they were so freshly made remained crisp underneath all the cheese and spicy sauce topped with some green peppers. It was an upgrade option from regular fries for some AED extra as part of a meal so we took it and inhaled it.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich:

The grilled chicken burger patty was literally like a beaten down chicken breast, poached and cooked again. My wife really appreciates it when  the integrity of the meat is maintained and she was quite happy with her burger. She said if she had to use one word to describe the burger it would be "fresh" because she said the bread seemed yum and the lettuce was still crisp and green, the patty did its job by being tasty and healthy and also the fact that it wasn't doused in creamy mayo was amazing! I think she was literally impressed by the burger.
Spicy Chicken Sandwich:

My order was a spicy chicken burger, and trust me when I say this- I was salivating while just ordering it.. we got our order a good 10 mins after we placed it but, it was well worth the wait. The burger was perfectly crunchy and well spiced! It's no rocket science-yes, but sometimes it the bid to make it spicy the burgers just become unappetizing or impossible to eat. This one hit the nail with the spice being not only tolerable but the one not to burn your intestines later. The bread was fresh and the portion was good..

We had a good time at Wendy's in terms of food and the service. The staff was well trained and courteous and the food was spectacular for a fast food chain. We might actually like it more than it's biggest competitor Mc Donald's..

About

Hengchen opened its doors in Dubai Motor City in 2010, introducing some of its most sought after Dim Sum Chicken, Crispy beef, Sweet and Sour chicken and other Chinese delicacies prepared to order, in vegetable oil, and served in a contemporary environment with friendly and efficient service.

Continuous hard work and conscious efforts towards the principle of Under Promising and Over Delivering, today, after 4 years, Hengchen remains greatly popular Chinese food Restaurant in Dubai, with its locations at Dubai Motor City, Dubai Investment Park (The Market Mall), JLT, Business Bay, Deira and Safeer Mall in Sharjah. Hengchen has modernized and transformed the Chinese food experience with its ever so popular Chicken Wantons, Japanese Nana Wings, Honey Glazed Prawns, Chicken Cashew Nut, Crispy Chicken and Chicken Chowmein.

Needless to mention Hengchen is greatly known for its generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, take aways, and delivery to your door step in minimum possible time. The food at Hengchen is prepared fresh daily and cooked to order.

Review

We were invited to Hengchen by their very efficient owners and chefs for a tasting specifically because we had a not-so-good experience with their branch in DIP months before. It was very sweet of them to bother and ask us to give them a second chance. Gladly, we made our way to the JLT branch where we were joined by the Owner Numan, casually checking up on us throughout our dinner and the chef in the end who was so open to new ideas and tips that we gave to him!

Beverages

Summer Passion:

Passion Fruit, Lemon Juice:- Loved it. Was so super refreshing!
Cinderella:

Orange juice, pineapple juice, milk cream:- Very tart in the beginning, but the taste is quite addictive once you start having it.
Mojito:

Classic. We ordered ours without any sugar and it still very refreshing and tasty!

Food

T.N.T. Prawns:

TNT prawns are definitely better than TNT chicken and we can vouch for that because we had tried the chicken version earlier. It is unfair to compare it to the ever famous "Dynamite Shrimps" from CPK, to these since these have a character of their own. They were tangy and hot at the same time and tasted pretty decent.
Japanese Nana Wings:

Chicken wings 2.0. These were SO good, we could not stop eating them. They were fried and coated in something similar to sticky and sweet plum sauce. Just a tad bit oily, but something that deserves a repeat order!
Sesame Prawns:

Very crunchy and fresh, these prawns were the highlight of our dinner at Hengchen that night. We honestly did not expect it to be as amazing as it was. Must order.
Steamed Chicken Dim Sums:

These are my wife's favourite as you know, if you have been following us. She said they were a bit too thick on the skin and the filling was nice and spicy. She did wonder why there was so much oil on top of the dim sums? Nevertheless, it was not bad, but not the best.
Vegetable Spring Roll:

Crispy philo pastry with a cabbage-y carroty-y mush that we have all been a fan of since our childhood. Hengchen did a good job with them. We just wished there was a dipping sauce served along with it.
Vegetable Fried Rice:

On to the mains we started off with the plain old fried rice to be eaten with Vegetable Manchurian in gravy. The rice itself was quite yum and nicely flavoured, again just a bit on the oilier side.
Vegetable Manchurian:

The vegetable manchurian is one of the best we have had in Dubai. We are big fans of Chinese Village but we found this to be better than that. The gravy was so tasty and thick as opposed to a watered down version you get elsewhere. The manchurian balls were sooo good and soft! It was definitely  our favourite main dish of the night.
Chicken in Shezwan Sauce:

Stir fried chicken in Shezwan sauce was ordered because we wanted to have something spicy yet not fried. The chicken sadly was a bit unevenly cooked and was left raw or overcooked in different bits, The sauce however was so spicy and nice, perfect to drench some rice or noodles in.
Chicken Singapore Noodles:

My wife felt like eating vermicelli noodles and hence we ordered this. It was quite palatable-yes, but the chicken had the same issues- it was left dry or uncooked. That just mellowed our spirits and we moved on to the next dish.
Chicken Curry Sauce With Rice:

We were sooo surprised to see curry being served in Hengchen, but it turned out to be almost similar to Thai curry. The presentation gets a vote from us. The curry itself tasted yum witht rice but the chicken had some recurring issues, so we could not really enjoy the taste that there was. Sad and we hope the chef can make amends and rectify this serious issue.
Chocolate Fudge:

On a sweeter note, the dessert was a chocolate fudge cake, outsourced but so yum and gooey nonetheless. It was a bit cold for our liking but not like that that stopped us from eating it all in a few seconds.

Verdict

Hengchen for us was about a few hits and a few misses. From what we ate the last time and from what we gauged, their seafood is commendable and so is the vegetarian food, Just the cooking of the chicken needs to be taken care of and they will have themselves an amazing indo-chinese restaurant. The staff was excellent and super helpful so kudos on that..

The Airports Council International (ACI) recently released its list of the busiest airports in the world. Once again, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) took with the top spot, with more than 100 million passengers in 2015. According to the ACI, this represents an increase in traffic of over 5.5% over 2014. The trade group attributes Atlanta's success to its strategic location, where it is within a two-hour flight of 80% of the US population. In addition, the ACI credits the growth of ATL's largest tenant — Delta Air Lines — for the airport's continued expansion in the traffic. Globally, the number of people traveling by air grew at a rate of 6.1% in 2015.

"It's impressive to witness the dynamic character of the aviation industry and its evolution over time," ACI World Director General Angela Gittens said in a statement. "Even in the most mature markets such as the United States and parts of Western Europe, several of the major hubs experienced year-over-year growth rates in passenger traffic that were well above the historical growth levels for these regions."

About

Funky fast food that are popular with expats and locals alike.

Review

In all honesty we have tried going to Falla like a million times but the plan has never worked out for various reasons, and by chance after a random night of drinking us with a couple of friends headed there at what maybe 1am on a Friday morning. We were quite surprised to see the amount of people that were already seated there and then the amount of people pouring in. Crowds lay an impression and we were convinced Falla would have something out of the ordinary to offer. (and it did indeed)

Food

Dynamite Nachos:

The obvious choice of drunk individuals is fried and greasy food, ours just also had tons of cheese on top! Dynamite Nachos at Falla are essentially served with melted cheddar cheese, spicy ranch, beef sauce, crispy onions, jalepenos and sour cream! It was everything and more at that point to us. The nachos seemed like they were made fresh and not out of a packet and the beef bits just added tons of flavour to this gooey cheesy mess!
Falla Classic Burger:

This one comprised of a well done beef patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, cheddar cheese and something called a signature Falla sauce. The portion was perfect but the burger itself was pretty average. We wished there was more of the signature sauce or something to add some flavour to it!
Falla Spicy Chicken:

Now, its no Mc Donalds, but this spicy chicken version although greasy was extremely yum! The patty was topped with cheddar cheese and some spicy sauce that was obviously very close to chilli mayo if not that exactly. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the bread to meat ratio was well-rounded.
Sliders:

The had an option to order my favorite mini sliders wherein we could choose the 3 sliders we wanted. We obviously jumped at that opportunity and picked our favourites from Falla's crazy menu.
Sliders: Chilli Burger

This one was well done beef patty with chilli mayo and cheddar cheese. I mean such a classic is really hard to mess up and ours was gone in in a few seconds, with one of those regrets that we should have ordered more.
Sliders: Italiano

Breaded chicken patty with lettuce, cheese and ceaser dressing, this was again very average. Did not have much flavour and the chicken seemed rather chewy. I doubt we even finished it..
Mushroom B:

Beef burger, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms and melted cheese! ABSOLUTELY yummers, we had actual arguments about who gets to have the last bite! We might in fact just go back for this!

Insisting on offering ingredients of the highest quality, creative and innovative menu items, and superb service for their guests, Frisco Crepes N Grills is committed on providing a unique dining experience that would attract people from all over the UAE.

Review

We went to Frisco Crepes and Grills on a late weekday night, for obvious reasons- we hadn't eaten and were famished! Luckily, despite of the fact that the restaurant was shutting down in like 20 minutes of us arriving, they were ready to take us in and place our orders, which BTW were mains and not just snacks. We really appreciated that and placed our order quick.

Meanwhile, we noticed that the place was made super cosy and it had random things like number plates and clocks depicting different time zones present! cute, we thought! Very hospitable :)

Food

Grilled Chicken Platter:

My wife is an ardent fan of grilled chicken so she did not take more than 2 seconds to place her order. As you can see, the portions are pretty king size so that definitely appeased our appetite and we dug in. The chicken seemed like it was marinated well because it had tons off flavour and was cooked near perfect!
The sauce on the side was like a spicy mayo, which was obviously wiped off with the help of crispy crunchy fries on the side.
The salad dressed in balsamic added a nice crunch factor to the meal. We really like it.
San Francisco Spicy Burger:

I opted for the burger because the description had me salivating. I don't know why they don't do regular burger buns though, but having said that the panini bread was not bad at all, just it lacked for the whole burger experience.
Anyways, we asked for the meat to be medium-well and it was and we loved it. It came dressed with harrissa sauce, some aioli and cheddar cheese with the regular lettuce and tomatoes. We asked for the avocado to be excluded.
If we had to we would rate it 3.5/5, just because even though everything seemed perfect, it lacked something?

Sadly we did not try what we think is this restaurants speciality- the crepes! The list on the menu seemed endless and the next time we go there it will be for the crepes for sure! Everything else is good too, and the service is excellent! For us, in JLT, we really appreciate when restaurants are open till at least 10:30pm, and this is one of them.
Try it, why not?

About

El Greco Restaurant is conveniently located in the area of Jumeirah 1, on Jumeirah Beach Road, near Mercato Mall. The restaurant is open Sunday to Saturday from 12:00pm to 03:00am and it is positioned on an excellent location for drive in take away as well as easy to find parking for people that want to eat in.

The restaurant is decorated on a modern, contemporary Greek style, embracing the colors of the Mediterranean. The whole concept of El Greco aims into a casually comfortable dining experience for people who want to have a quick snack or even a whole delicious meal without wasting any precious time from their business or leisure.

Review

We had heard a lot about this place from our various friends so we decided to finally give it a go. It was actually a tough competition between El Greco and the infamous Ijaza cafe, but we flipped a coin and decided to try the new joint. Now we haven't been to Greece before but we have eaten our share of amazing gyros(pronounced as YEE-ros) in Budapest to have a set benchmark as to what a Dubai version would be like.
This was the Saturday following the Eid break and it was surprising that we were the only people there, also slightly relieved because we assumed the service would be faster.

Food

Chicken Gyros:

Stuffed to the brim, this gyro came in all it glory all sauced up and looking fat and juicy! The first bite make me realise just how good this is and I didn't look up once after that. Only after it as over, i realised either I was famished or this was really good, and i'm hinging towards the latter. The chicken shavings were still juicy as opposed to the super dried up leftovers many places sell. IT was dressed in an amazing but not so overpowered with garlic Tatziki which just made for the basis of the sandwich. One gyro is definitely good enough for one very hungry soul!
Beef Donner:

Okay this one was hands down the better one of the two, which came as surprise to us. We generally prefer chicken over any meat but this one was special. The beef shavings again like the chicken were not dried up and boring, instead so super soft and full of flavour. Mid-way we did felt the need to add more tatziki to it but otherwise it was perfection! We will definitely be coming back for this one again.

El Greco is located next to a lot of competition but it has enough good quality food, that will draw the customers right in. The portions are good and value for money, so El Greco has no choice but to soar. Also, wen we were getting happy about a faster service because of no crowd, we did not account the number of deliveries they were sending out. Real food, no faff. Definitely try it..

About

Waffle Factory was established at the end of the 1990s. At that time Belgaufre mainly manufactured frozen dough for Liège waffles.

On the initiative of Stéphane Desobry, who had been aware for some time of the limitations and costs of the frozen product, he and his father embarked on a lengthy exercise to develop a dry dough mix for Liège waffles. The result of 2 years’ work is a lower fat product (barely 12% fat content) to be produced fresh and tasting absolutely delicious.

Small sales outlets (originally 6m²) will now have a craftsman working in their unit each morning to produce fresh dough, which will then be cooked to order for the customer.

Waffle Factory began essentially with Liège waffles, but a few years later other dough recipes were created for both savoury waffles for main meals and sweet ones for increasingly tasty desserts.

The LunchWAF, a true lunchtime or evening meal, quite unique in its preparation, will become a favourite with customers who, tired of endless sandwiches or pizzas, will enjoy this "waffle like no other waffle".

Filled Waffines and other Wapitis will make up the now extensive Waffle Factory product range.

Review

We were THRILLED to be invited to this this new buzzing place in town, which also a part of the new F+B outlets opened in Burjuman lately! Luckily we were in the vicinity and the French Co-owner who happened to be there, very politely welcomed us and walked us through the whole history of Waffles, Belgium and Waffle Factory! It was an intimate tasting session and we were so happy with the food that was served to us and company we received. Read along our journey with the Waffle Factory!

Beverages

Cappuccino

Now, if someone does serve coffee, my wife would never give up a chance to have it! She said this one was just what she desired for- a no fuss straight up cappuccino.
Karak Chai

Karak chai translates into strong tea in English, and that it was. One of the really good ones in Dubai.

Food

The food at the waffle factory was divided into savoury as well as sweet waffs. So obviously we started with the savoury waffles. We were taken through how these waffles are made creating a fermented and rested savoury dough- pretty much like a pizza dough. The basically flatten out a piece of dough., add the filling in the centre and fold the sides into the centre to create a "closed pizza" almost. This preparation is then cooked on the waffle iron and hence it takes up the shape of a waffle and is also evenly cooked.

Savoury

Chicken Tikka Waff

Absolute favourite. The filling was lightly spicy but it complemented with the waffle dough and became like this amazing sandwich. It was just the novelty of having a savoury waffle that got us so excited!
Chicken With Emmental

We were so pleased when we heard that we would get emmental in our waff, because not a lot of outlets do this cheese for whatever reasons. It paired well with the chicken filling and some ketchup on the side we had ourselves a full meal.
Pesto Chicken Waff

On the recommendation of the very French but very friendly co-owner we decided to try the pesto make from their kitchen and boy was it good! Pesto is a well rounded sauce and we both love the strong whiff of basil and if the sauce is left a bit nutty it instantly wins our hearts. Chicken and pesto are almost like classics and that wrapped in a freshly made waffle dough is bomb!

Sweet

Confession. We were literally full to the brim with our savoury waffs that we almost did not want to push it, but when were being explained about the different varieties of waffle doughs and how each dough has a different texture once cooked, we though a few more bites would not hurt. So the different varieties were the
  • Brussles Waffles
  • Liege Waffles
  • Waffine Waffles
Liegh Waffle: Nutella, Date Syrup

This is a richer, denser, sweeter, and chewier waffle, and is apparently the most common waffle available throughout Belgium. We got ours topped with Nutella which was extraordinary and with Date Syrup (picture below)
The good thing about the syrup on this type of waffle was that it completely soaked the syrup and became this syruppy cake! We loved it!
Liegh Waffle: Date Syrup
Waffine: Lotus Spread

The Waffine is more like a thin brioche dough, and we got ours filled with Lotus Spread. The texture was literally like a soft flattened out cake and it was one of my favourites from the waffle lot!
Brussels Waffles: Peanut Butter, Belgian Dark Chocolate

Brussels waffles are prepared with an egg-white-leavened or yeast-leavened batter, traditionally an ale yeast occasionally both types of leavening are used together. They are lighter, crisper and have larger pockets compared to other European waffle varieties, and are easy to differentiate from Liège Waffles by their rectangular sides.
We got ours topped with Peanut Butter: Fantastic. It was like biting into a sugar cookie. Extremely light and there are so many toppings you can play around with.
Brussels Waffle with Dark Belgian Chocolate

We preferred this over the PB any day because the quality of chocolate was finger lickingly superb!
Movenpick Icecreams:
Though we could not possibly have had a morsel more of any kind of food, we did not try the ice cream shakes or the ice cream itself. Maybe next time...

It is a genuinely interesting concept and it will definitely blow your mind just to learn about different kinds of waffles as opposed to just assuming every waffle tastes like the American waffle. The Savoury ones were the show stealer for us obviously because it is a very new concept and we loved the combination! They are coming up with new interesting food combinations so keep an eye out for them, and in the meanwhile definitely go treat yourselves to one of these, and thank us later!

Review

Concealed within the depths of the grandiose Armani Hotel, wittily located is the Armani/Deli that makes you journey through the lavish halls of the hotel before you reach your destination, all the while thinking how is this restaurant going to match up to the look and feel of the hotel? In this case, I have to disagree with the quote “its about the journey, not the destination” because Armani/Deli manages to capture the aesthetics of its iconic brand and further its image. From the interiors to their authentic Italian menu, its clear this establishment emerges from the roots. The menu heavily favors the seafood loving community but there are aplenty of other variation and vegetarian options. The glorious Dubai Fountain Show, which is the world's tallest fountain, from their outdoors seating area only adds to the grandness of the experience. Impressively at a whopping 275 meters, it is twice the height of the fountains at Bellagio in Las Vegas, USA.

Food

Burrata Cheese With Eggplant Puree and Balsamic:

For the uninitiated buratta cheese is a fresh Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella, while the inside contains "stracciatella" and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is also defined by some sources as an outer shell of mozzarella filled with butter or a mixture of butter and sugar. It is usually served fresh and at room temperature. The word burrata means "buttered" in Italian.
Now imagine being served this glorious thing with balsamic, that totally cut the "richness" and added some zing to our lump of cheese, while the eggplant puree (even though it sounds strange), added a charm of its own with its subtle flavours to the glistening burrata making it a perfect appetizer!
Fettuccini With Procini Mushroom And Black Truffle:

Our second course was a warm pasta dish, and when we heard about the description we could not wait for it. As anticipated we could smell the truffle flavours as our dishes were arriving to the table. I'm a new fan of truffle ever since my wife initiated it to me and I realised how naturally you wish you could use it on everything(but you cannot). Truffle oil and pasta go very well together and Chef Maurizio took well advantage of that. Our platters came with well twirled pasta drenched in truffle oil and decorated with the porcini. Unquestionably it tasted splendid and I think all of us inhaled this very large portion in a few minutes.
Saffron Risotto With Asparagus / King Prawn:

Risotto is a northern Italian rice dish cooked in a broth to a creamy consistency. The broth can be derived from meat, fish, or vegetables. Many types of risotto contain butter, wine, and onion. It is one of the most common ways of cooking rice in Italy. The common preparation includes the rice to be first cooked briefly in a soffritto of onion and butter or olive oil, to coat each grain in a film of fat, white or red wine is added and must be absorbed by the grains.
I was being enlightened by my lady while we waited for our last savoury course of the night. I honestly did not know about a lot of that stuff. Anyways, our risotto was not only prepared like that but consisted additional flavours of exotic Saffron to go with it, and while mine was topped with a giant prawn, my wife had buttered asparagus on hers. We dug in and never stopped (like expected).

Risotto is literally a very complicated dish to cook, because the rice needs be al dente almost, so much so that the contestants of Masterchef Australia call it the "death-dish". Not that we had any qualms about our dish, because when we spoke to Chef Murizio we knew exactly that we were in for a posh treat!
Orange Blossom Cannolino, Citrus Ricotta Mousse:

Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta. Our Cannolinis were flavoured with delicate flavours of orange, which something out of the ordinary for us. The flavour was enough to be noticed, and filled with a complimenting citrus ricotta cheese filling, placed on top of a smooth sheet of raspberry jelly and decorated with a few sugared raspberries.

The dessert not only looked gorgeous but tasted amazing! It was especially nice because the complexity and the lightness of all the citrussy flavours really helped us get over the heavy, buttery and utterly yum appetizer and mains that we devoured.
Raspbery Sorbet:

Raspberry Sorbet literally gave me a brain freeze but it did wake me up from the "food coma" i was slipping into. It was so nice to taste a real fruit sorbet as opposed to the synthetic/flavoured sorbets we get in the markets. One of the highlights of the entire meal actually!

Verdict

The Armani/Deli is in conformity with their Italian grounds and is a goldmine for seafood lovers. Expecting for inventive and unique finds is ill advised, the menu can be by the numbers and that’s what I hope they implement on in the future. Other than that the Deli has success written all over it, from the brand image to the inspired implementation of the Italian cuisine, not forgetting the epic fountain works during the nocturnal hours. Now in its 2nd successful year, This exotic Gourmet 10/10 Culinary Festival at Armani Restaurants is certainly not to be missed.
